May
21st, 2010: STS performs an unusual club gig at the Lilypad
in Cambridge, MA., sharing a bill with the classical guitar ensemble Duo
Orfeo. $10 cover.
June 15th - 17th, 2010: STS presents an all-new program, "Rantin' Pipe and Tremblin' String: Scottish Music of the 18th Century", as part of the SoHIP concert series. The music of Baroque Scotland displays a surprising mix of folk and classical features, and the Scottish dialogue between the two traditions is preserved in musical notation, thanks to the unusually literate bent of 18th-century Scottish musicians. Seven Times Salt explores this unique crossroads of folk and classical traditions in a new program of music by Oswald, McGibbon, McLean, Purcell, Matteis, and Geminiani, as well as pieces from Orpheus Caledonius, the Straloch lute and Dixon bagpipe manuscripts, and the Scots Musical Museum. This program pays homage to the Scottish drawing rooms and dance halls where the only difference between a fiddler and a violinist may have been the music in front of him! With special guests Alastair Thompson (harpsichord) and Shari Alise Wilso (soprano). This program will be performed on three consecutive nights, with concerts in Weston, Andover, and the Back Bay. Tickets $20 regular/$15 students & seniors. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit the SoHIP website.
